Rachel Joy Egan Oh my God! I just searched for Rachel Joy Egan on MSN Search, just for fun, because that's my name, to see if there were any other Rachel Joy Egan's in the world, and this description came up for your site- Submitted by Rachel Joy Lewis (my mother is Joy Egan, grandfather peter john egan) ... Oh my God! I am Rachel Joy Egan, my mum is Joy Elizabeth Egan, and my grandad is Peter John Egan! Our family originally came from Ireland, we're not sure where, but we apparently moved to England during the potato famine *laughs* I have no idea of dates or places, these are just old tales my grandad's always saying.

Just a bit more about the whole family history thing- We don't know what part of Ireland were from, but we know we have been in England for at least 4 generations, one of my great great grandparents was a stableboy for some rich man in a manor in England, and the names Higgins and Humphries appear in our family tree alot. That's about all we know.

(legally my name is Rachel Joy Lewis, but that's my dad's surname, and I don't go by that anymore, coz my rents got divorced. We're just waiting for the papers to come through to have Lewis changed to Egan)

They had 3 known children - Ellen 1821, James 1824, Honoria 1831 (at least that's when they were baptised) all in Tipperary but close to Galway border as far as I can gather. James Egan married 1858 to Margaret Liston daughter of John Liston and Brdget Healey and migrated to Australia 1859 where they had Dennis, John, James, Ellen, Bridget, Margaret and Mary. Am trying to find anyone who is descended from any of these people. Thank you Julie
David Egan Hi I'm David Egan from Galway Ireland. We had family which emigrated to America in the 1850's, 1890's and 1912. Boston, Baltimore and Philadelphia being the main entry points. Lost contact with most of them over the years, but managed to keep in contact with Egans in Boston. According to the Egan family tree we all originally came from Tipperary, Kilkenny and Offaly (we were ancient Celtic judges and lawyers) and were forced out of our lands in the 1650's by Oliver Cromwell (the infamous English tyrant) ; most Egans ended up in Galway and the western counties. So most emigrants to America ( from year 1700 onwards) would have originated from the Western counties of Ireland.

I am descended from Luke Egan (who was from County Roscommon) and Margaret Filan (who was also from Co. Roscommon) (they were my grandmothers parents). They migrated to australia in the 1870;s married here and had about six children of which my grandmother was one. I have no other information on them. If there is anyone out there who is also descended from them and would like to correspond please get in touch.
