Up until the mid 1980's, this was a fairly unspoiled long narrow Atlantic facing beach behind a broad expanse of sand dunes, so remote and untouched was it that it was used as a location for film-work. Now the dunes are mostly a caravan park, the county council has developed car-parking and an access road, and the beach tends to be fairly crowded on good days. But it is still a fine long safe sandy beach, with the Burren as a spectacular backdrop.
In recent years there has also been sightings of a friendly dolphin in the sea around this area.
Access: by road, between Ballyvaughan and Doolin.
