This annual award was established as part of Cló Iar-Chonnactta's 10-year celebration a number of years ago. The award is presented for the best Irish-language work in any literary form; drama, novel, poetry or short story collections. The award is only open to writers under the age of 30. The closing date for the award entries is on the 1st December annually. A prize of IR£1000 is offered (c.2001).
Another annual award, this one is presented for a newly written and unpublished work in the Irish language. In 1996 the award was made to the best novel, in 1997 the award was for the best poetry collection and in 1998 for the best drama or short story collection. The last date of entry for this award is on the 1st December for the next year's entry. There is prize money of IR £5000 (c.2000).
